On-Site Beach Art - from Good Earth Art

Materials:

natural items collected at the beach such as:

  • glass
  • shells
  • pods
  • sand
  • dry grasses and reeds
  • seaweed
  • driftwood

Process:

1. Pick up interesting items and bring to a spot on the beach where you will work.

2. Lay out the items and begin to create a design, a face, a picture, or a collage on the sand.

3. Move parts around as you go.

4. Go back and look for more items to add to your work.

5. Leave on the beach as is, or glue to a piece of cardboard to take home.

Variations:

1. Make a trash collection picture. Leave visible for others to see, and then clean-up and recycle appropriately when you go home.
2. Build a beach sculpture that stands up, using logs, wood, and other larger beach items.
3. Try this same project at the park, the school playground, the mountains, the pond, or in your own backyard.
4. Glue smaller items to a piece of driftwood or shell.
5. Make on-site desert art, forest art, playground art, or backyard art. Any environment can be on-site art.
