Polished Crayon from Science Arts |

Materials:
- crayons
- paper towels
- paper
|
|
|
|
When the crayon drawing is rubbed vigourously, heat is created from the FRICTION. The wax molecules move faster and spread out or MELT. When the friction stops, the crayon wax cools and the molecules slow down and hold the new, smoother shape caused by friction. |

Art Experiment:
- Press hard with a crayon to draw a picture or design on the paper. (Use lots of bright crayon, coloring hard.)
- Place the paper towel over a pointer finger and polish the crayon marks until they smear together, blend, and shine.

Variations:
- Color with crayon on a sheet of paper. Then polish the marks. Next add chalk to the crayon drawing and smear both of these to blend chalk and crayon.
- Place paper on a warm surface, such as a buffet warming tray. Draw on warm paper with old crayons (paper peeled).
