Fabric Transfer - from Scribble Art
Fabric crayons are available at most stores in the school supply section, and at all hobby stores. The results are bright and permanent, and a fascinating process for artists. I have pillow cases, a quilt, and a T-shirt that have been washed and dried over and over again for years, and have retained the same bright design.
Materials:
- fabric crayons
- washed 100% cotton fabric
- plain white paper
- old iron
- old towel or newsprint
- table or ironing board
Process:
1. Cover a table with a thick towel and a sheet of newsprint, or cover an ironing board with a sheet of newsprint. Heat the iron to cotton setting , no steam
2. Draw on white paper with fabric crayons. Remember if writing words or names to write them backwards so that the transfer will be frontwards.
3. Place the drawing face side down on the fabric.
4. Cover the drawing with another piece of newsprint.
5. Press firmly with a hot, dry iron. Also, follow the directions on the fabric crayon box for other hints and suggestions.
6. Peel away the paper drawing from the fabric. A bright transfer on the drawing will be printed on the fabric.
