Melted Packing Peanuts - from Big Messy Art
Biodegradable Packing Peanuts made from cornstarch are great for packing and for gooey art projects. These packing peanuts melt with liquid and make the coolest foamy goop, 3-D art, and also make a great paste! What fun!
Materials:
biodegradable packing peanuts (Eco-Foam peanuts made from non-toxic, puffed, dried cornstarch)
pitchers or small bowls
big sheets of paper or trays
small pitchers of water
tongue depressors
empty containers
Simple Stick and Build:
1. Moisten a peanut in a dish of water.
2. Stick the peanut to another peanut. Moistening the peanuts melts them slightly so they will stick together.
3. Build any sculpture shape you can imagine! Build and build as big as you want! You can even make a hat if the sculpture is formed over a plastic bowl covered with plastic wrap. Easy!
Melted Toothpick Sculpture:
1. Put lots of toothpicks and packing peanuts on the table.
2. Build any sculpture on a big piece of cardboard by sticking toothpicks and peanuts together. If you like, you can omit the toothpicks and work with peanuts sticking to each other simply by first moistning them with a little water.
3. When the sculpture is finished, drip paint onto the peanuts from eyedroppers or pipettes. Watch the sculpture melt and dissolve, changing shape and becoming something new and surprising! Then let dry.
4. You can save this misshapen masterpiece.
Clean-up tip: Eco-Foam is safe to wash down the sink with hot water.
