Rose Petal Beads - from Mudworks

These beads are pretty and very unique - enough to make one necklace.

Materials:

1/2 cup (125 ml) flour
1 T. (15ml) salt
2 T. (30ml) water
3 cups (750ml) rose petals
round toothpicks
bowl

Process:

1. mix flour, salt, and water to stiff dough in the bowl
2. cut rose petals into tiny pieces and crush in palms
3. mix crushed petals into dough without making it crumbly
4. shape dough into beads
5. push toothpicks through center to make holes
6. dry for a few days
7. string beads on cord after thoroughly dry

Hints:

  • makes enough beads for one necklace
  • remove toothpicks before dough gets too hard

Variations:

  • scratch rose designs into wet beads
  • make different shaped beads
  • experiment with other sculptures
