String Snacks from Preschool Art

Materials
  • Embroidery floss or crochet thread
  • Scissors
  • large-eyed plastic needle
  • food items - dry cereal with holes, raisins, prunes, dried apricots or gum drops
  • beads made from baked bread dough
Art Process
  1. Thread floss through the needle. Knot the doubled thread at one end.
  2. String various food items on the thread until the string is full.
  3. Cut the end of the string at the needle and tie this end to the other end of the string making a complete circle, necklace or garland of food.
  4. Wear, eat and enjoy! A real portable snack!

Variations
  • String a small box of raisins to the necklace as a pendant.
  • Fill squares of plastic wrap with seeds or nuts and attach these to the necklace too.
  • Use patterns in the design such as dark/light, smooth/rough or large/small.
  • Go for a walk while wearing snack-necklaces.
  • Make the necklaces for gifts.
