Easy Sun Print - from Scribble Art
For a crisp, sharp image caused by the sun fading colored paper, it is very important that the objects on the paper do not move. The day must be very sunny, bright and hot with no wind, rain, or other disturbances. This is the easiest sun print possible. However, the faded paper print will not last other than a few days.
Materials:
one of the following bright papers:
- construction paper, bright colored poster board, or colored butcher paper
materials collected from nature
sunny day, very bright and dry
rocks or stones for weights
tape or glue
Process:
1. Go for a walk on a very bright sunny day. Collect items with nice shapes from nature.
2. Place a sheet of construction paper in the shade near the sunny area and lay out some of the nature materials on the paper. Work quickly so the sun does not fade the paper.
3. To keep the materials in place, use tiny pieces of tape or little drops of glue, but not enough to interfere with the design and print.
4. Carry the paper to the sun and place on the ground out of the wind. Place rocks or stones on the corners of the paper to hold.
5. Leave untouched until the sun sets. Bring the paper and nature items inside. Remove the pieces on the paper and observe the sun print.
Variations:
Buy a sun print kit at a nature or school supply store and follow the directions. Much like a blueprint.
Use other objects for sun prints such as:
- scissors
- stencils
- jar lids
|
- hammer
- toys
- wooden blocks
|
- cut paper shapes
- pressed flowers
- bricks, rocks
|
Make grass patterns by leaving objects on the lawn and fading the grass beneath. Water to restore the green grass after removing the patterns.
Tape or pin objects to a bulletin board covered with bright butcher paper which is also in the sun most of each day. After several days, remove the objects and see the sun print left underneath.
Create arrangements of nature materials on the paper, or use only one piece of nature to highlight.
