Process
  1. Open the puff pastry package and thaw on the countertop for about 15 minutes.
  2. Cut a long strip of dough about 1/4-inch wide all the way down one side. Set aside.
  3. Cut the remaining pastry sheet into four 4-inch squares. In the center of each square, place about 1/8 cup of cherry pie filling.
  4. Bring pastry corners together just above cherry pie filling, twist the top and turn to hold in place, like a pillow or bundle. Place the pillow on the baking sheet.
  5. Next, cut off a section of the strip of dough and make a bow on the pillow. Pinch the bow into the top of the pillow pastry.
  6. Bake the cherry pillows in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes until golden brown. Wear an oven mitt and remove the hot cherry pillows from the oven. Cool for 10 minutes.
  7. Sprinkle the tops of the pillows with soft, powdery confectioners' sugar.
  8. For additional creative fun, draw on white paper napkins with permanent markers to create plate liners that look like quilts, or color fabric squares with fabric pens for the same results.
  9. Place a quilt napkin on each plate. Transfer the cherry pillows to quilted serving plates.

Serve as a dessert even George Washington would love. I cannot tell a lie! Cherry Tree Pillows are delicious!
